River Test at Totton, Southampton WIP

River Test at Totton, Southampton WIP

This painting was completed in February 2016. It is of a scene at Totton, Hampshire, on the outskirts of Southampton where the River Test flows in to Southampton Port. The view is pointing west with Totton town just visible on the left. The main bridge is the railway line between Southampton and Bournemouth. The photograph here shows the painting in three stages. The first panel is the line drawing in brown acrylic paint on a red ground. The second panel show a half way stage with many areas blocked in with an acrylic base or under-painting, slightly darker than the intended finished layer. The third panel shows the completed work.

Marwell Zoo Zany Zebra campaign 2016

Marwell Zoo Zany Zebra campaign

This is the design for one of the Zebras (Seafaring Zebra) I will be creating for the 'Zany Zebras'  campaign, which will feature a large number of full size Zebras sculptures occupying the City of Southampton, in the UK. It has been masterminded by Marwell Zoo, located outside of the city with the aim of creating awareness and the need for protection of Zebra. Each Zebra sculpture will be painted by local artists and sponsored by local or national companies. They are in place on the streets for the summer term after which a glamorous auction is held for their sale, the proceeds of which go toward the protection of the animal.
I will be creating two Zebras for the campaign. The first one was designed in December 2015 and sponsored by ABP, one of the largest employers in the town in people and physical area, in early January. It will be turned in to reality from the 4th March at the Marlands Shopping Center, using an empty shop unit as a base where this one and others can be seen to be created. This design was created/ drawn in Photoshop.

Boats on Riverside Park Bank

This painting was created in November 2015. It shows a summer evening waterfront scene on the river bank at Riverside park, Southampton. The river flowing through the scene is the River Itchen. At this location on the suburbs of Southampton are a number of properties with gardens backing on to the river. On the river itself are a number of boats resting on the mud as the tide is out.
The painting is done on heavy paper using acrylic painting. It is 16" x 12" in size.
