This was painted in oils during september 2010. It is based on a photograph taken about 5 years earlier at at steam fare. The engine is a Wallis & Steevens Road Roller, built in 1925.7844, Old Ken",and "HO 6442", are other details connected with it, possibly the registration number.
I think it turned out very well as a painting, and the brass and copper fittings worked nicely with the shiny green paint. The painting is 20"x16".

This is an oil painting of a vintage steam roller. It is a 'Wallis &
Steevens Road Roller' built in 1925 and named 'Old Ken'. It is seen
here at a countryside steam fair traction engine rally, wearing two
'england' flags. It is painted in oils to a size of 20" x 16" on a
canvas. Its fun to paint the shiny brass and copper fittings and put the
highlights on the wheels. The two men driving the steam roller help to
give it scale. Painting ellipses is always difficult, but is is a
requirement to get these right when painting a subject like this.
A train journey for an assortment of animals.A pig is driving, with passengers made up of a lion, giraffe, elephant and monkey hanging on at the rear. It is set, apart from the animals, in a very english setting with english railway equipment. My original intention was to repaint an earlier image featuring cute pigs traveling in a train. The earlier image was painted quite small (link) so the intention was to redo it on a larger scale. But things sometimes never quite work out, and I ended up doing a different take on the subject matter. Painted in late 2008 in photshop.

Cartoon animals on a railway journey was digitally painted during 2008
in photoshop, to a A4 size. It features a pig driving, lion reading,
bear listening to gramophone, snake on chimney, elephant and giraffe. A
monkey is hanging on to the end of the train. Finally a blackbird guard
is timekeeping and has just been dislodged from the falling signal arm.
The image is in some ways quite realistically painted in terms of the
foliage, reflections and general tone and colour qualities. But the perspective is quite (stylistically) distorted, in particular the track,
to show and clarify the overall scene. But the occupants and in
particular the engine are drawn as solid objects in a 3 dimensional
world. This illustration is a development from this earlier
illustration. The intention was to redo this earlier image to a larger
size, but once you start drawing different ideas come out!
Painted in 2008.
