WIP stages of the horror illustration

This dark fantasy vampire illustration was created during early spring 2020. It is digitally painted using 'SketchBook Pro' running on a Samsung tablet. This enables me to sketch out ideas quickly at a fairly low definition and work up a concept sketch. The first image shows the drawing as done on the tablet followed by the same drawing worked up in colour, again on the tablet. Once I am happy with the way it is progressing the file, which is stored as a 'layered' PSD file is then exported in to a W10 desktop computer running the same programme ( with extra functionality on the PC). The file size pixel dimensions are enlarged to 6000 x 4500px to provide a sharp illustration for output, if printed and in any case a detail picture will be the result, unlike if the image was kept at the original tablet image specifications. The final image shows the finished illustration, where the rough image has been repainted with finer details. Also it can be noted that more things have been added in to the composition, as in more creatures for example.

After an apocalyptic event of some sort a different world is now offered. In a ruined church a tall, attractive female gothic vampire, dressed in black attire is having a stroll with her pet creature. It is on the end of a chain but happily resting while its mistress surveys the scene of devastation while enjoying the shade on her umbrella. The pair are not alone as in this strange world, with its dominant red, cloudy sky and barren landscape. There are a number of flying creatures in the air and other, land based ones are scurrying around the building ruins.
This illustration is painted digitally. It is initially painted on a tablet using 'Sketchbook Pro'. When it has been developed to a point the file is then exported to a larger computer where the image is enlarged are repainted to a much finer standard. It measures 6000 x 4500px and was done in early spring 2020.

During March 2018 this manga styled, gothic digital illustration was created featuring a vampire about to make advances on a young woman. The scene is lit by the candelabra the busty woman is holding.

The image is based on very typical horror based situations and conventions.

It was dawn and painted on a Galaxy android tablet as a sketch, then later exported to a windows computer running the same software but with more power. The final details and colour grading was then done in Photoshop.

This illustration was created during March 2018, and was initially painted digitally in 'Auto Sketchbook Pro', using an android tablet. The horror based, manga inspired picture was worked up to a point (as in the centre image), where- upon it was exported in layers (as a PSD file) on to a windows computer also running Auto Sketchbook pro, and also enlarged to create a better quality image. At a certain stage the image is then worked on in Photoshop for extra details and colour grading, with the finished image seen on the right. Using this link the illustration can be studied in better detail.

This digital painting features a cute,gothic Victorian lady vampire, floating around in the grounds of a ruined church on night. With is one of her friendly bats on th is fine, moonlit night which shows up the stone sarcophagus that she has risen from.

The image was created in 'Auto Sketchbook Pro' on a windows computer during February 2017, and can be seen in close up here.

This composite picture shows a number of stages in the creation of this digital painting, featuring a Gothic woman vampire with bat friend in the typical scene of a ruined church at night.
The first panel shows the initial drawing, each object within drawn on separate levels, often roughly at first, and then cleaned up on another separate level. In this case this drawing was created on a Samsung tablet running the 'Auto Sketchbook pro' app. After a suitable drawing had been created it was then exported from the tablet (as a layered PSD) and opened in photoshop on a PC to enlarge it to the correct proportions for the final illustration and saved. After this stage the drawing is now ready for painting, and is opened up in the desktop version of 'Auto Sketchbook pro'. From now on the artwork is painted using a number of brushes using the drawing as a reference. Again each element is painted on layers. Once the painting was complete some final regrading was done using Photoshop.

Digital illustration of a Gothic fairy with a black widow friend in a graveyard. The goth fairy girl is dressed in Victorian attire with jewellery glistening in the moonlight, and has black wings. Beside her, on its web, is a friendly black widow spider, with distinctive red markings. Behind them on the horizon is a old haunted castle where they used to live but now the small hut provides accommodation for them and their friends. 
Painted in Photoshop to A4 size during late February 2014.
