Twin propellers on blue boat - acrylic painting

Twin propellers on blue boat - acrylic painting

marine boat in dry dock propeller painting Davey
acrylic painting - 'Twin propellers on blue boat'

This marine based piece of artwork was created in May 2018 and painted in acrylics on stretched water-colour paper, sized at 16” x 12”.
It is based on a photo taken one morning at a local boat yard, and the subject was a boat resting on jacks out of the water awaiting refurbishment. The blue hull, which was rusty, and the propellers showed lots of deposits from marine life living on the boat exterior, and gave the propellers an interesting blue cast. The day was sunny some it was interesting to see the light playing over the complicated forms of the propellers blades.
The picture can be seen here on this link.

Red Boat Wreck Southampton - acrylic painting

Red Boat Wreck Southampton - acrylic painting

Red Boat Wreck Southampton - acrylic painting

Painted in April 2018 the subject of this landscape painting are some of the boat wrecks to be found on this river in the city of Southampton. The river Itchen is host to many old and forgotten vessels, mostly small boats and rowing boats, some of which are now just the 'bones' of their former self.
The view shows two boats, one still painted red and has been converted to hold all sorts of pieces of wood and other junk on top of it. Possibly the boat is actually inhabited! As the river is tidal many wrecks are exposed on the mudflats when the tide is out and disappear when the water returns. In the distance can be seen Bevois Valley.
This acrylic painting measures 20” x 28” and is painted on thick watercolour paper.
A better view of the painting can be found on this link.

A Sporting Life: Submissions accepted

A Sporting Life: Submissions accepted

I found out recently that my two paintings for the exhibition at Southampton City Art gallery have been accepted.  A few days before the gallery tweeted an image of some of the paintings presumably accepted and was pleased to see my two paintings in the foreground.
The exhibition is called 'A Sporting life' and runs from the 25th June – 10th September 2016.
