New Forest Camping Fun - WIP oil painting stages

WIP stages of 'New forest camping fun' painting
This composite photograph shows the painting 'New Forest Camping Fun' in four stages of work in progress. In the first panel is  the drawing of the scene done in acrylics on a dark brown wash of acrylic paint. The second panel shows the addition of darker colours added, using acrylic paint, which act as the under-painting and will give final layers of paint, when applied something to kick against. The third panel shows a start on the final painted layer, which is done in oil paint. The last panel shows the final and finished oil painting, which is sized at 20" x 28" approx and done on mounting board, during June 2017.
The location is a camping site in the New Forest, Hampshire, on the South coast of the UK. The time is August with the children enjoying the sunny, summers day in this shady woodland part of the National park.
The final painting can be seen in detail here.

Cartoon Zombie Party

Cartoon Zombie Party

This digital image was done in September 2014 and illustrates a party being enjoyed by a number of cartoon zombies in a graveyard on Halloween. Originally the artwork was going to be drawn as 'vector' based drawn art with flat colours. In the end the whole thing was done in photoshop. The characters have a flattish, cartoony colouring to them but with some brushmarks. Unusually for me the background has not been painted but I have used photographs heavily treated for the trees, sky and grass. On top of the whole image 'grunge' effects have been placed to add some finishing sparkle.
I wanted the 'horror' to be as funny as possible to a general audience. The zombies have cartoony poses, worms coming out of them and eyeballs popping out. One zombie has had his head drop off while rising from the grave.

Children and Snowman playing together

Children and Snowman playing together

This illustration was created in the last days of 2013, and features a large snowman wearing a hat, carrot and scarf having fun in the snow with two happy children. I decided to give the children 'manga' features and have a slightly graphic look to the image by having a pattern of snowflakes and beams of light rather than a 'scene' as such, creating a bold and simple composition. The fan of light beams helps to focus on the subject matter.

The illustration is created in photshop to A3 size.

Cartoon Fat Little Birthday Pig vector illustration

Cartoon Fat Little Birthday Pig vector illustration

This vector based illustration shows a fat, little pig celebrating his birthday. He has been presented a chocolate cake with a candle stuck in the chocolate icing on top, and can't wait to eat it in one mouthful. The artwork was created at A3 size during 2013. A basic drawing was first produced in Photoshop with flat colours painted in. This was then traced in a vector programme with colour samples taken from the rough, pixel image.

Little Happy Pigs On Train Journey

train painting pigs

DAY TRIP FOR PIGS ON RAILWAY

This painting dates from 2005, and is one of the earliest photoshop illustrations of mine on the internet. I enjoy painting 'eccentric' railway locomotives, and I wanted to, at the time paint a picture which is clear and cute to the viewer. I have built in unrealistic curves in to the train track, hills and clouds.

from the website...
This is a very early digital painting, possibly the second one produced. The illustration shows some pigs on a day trip riding on a train in the countryside. The engine is a red steam engine, driven by a happy pig driver. The passengers are happy as well looking at the scenery, though one of them is busy reading a newspaper. I did intend to redraw this at a larger resolution, but the image changed in to another, similar illustration instead.
