vintage southampton bus rally 2024 Davey art

At Victoria Park, on the suburbs of Southampton, a vintage bus and coach rally was held on a very overcast day. I estimate there were probably 45 or so public transport vehicles, plus a number of vintage cars. The single decker bus situated in the center of the painting is an ex- London Transport.
This event was all held in the imposing shadow of the Royal Netley Hospital Chapel, very close, on the banks of Southampton Water. The rain on this summers day did manage to hold off for most of the time painting this scene, apart from one brief but hard shower.
Painted on Sunday 14th July 2024. It is painted on mounting board sized at 9.5 x 12", in oils.
Below is a photo showing the easel set and work progressing.

Weston shore chapel painting

Facing Southampton Water is this dominant structure, known as the Royal Victoria Hospital Chapel. It was originally the central part of a much larger military hospital, over a 1/4 of mile long and in use for 100 years or so. It was demolished in 1966, bar this section. The area is now known as the Royal Victoria Park, and is very near to the village of Netley (Hampshire).
The painting shown here was done on the 13 July 2023 on a very windy day, coming directly off Southampton Water at full force! Its painted in oils on mounting board, sized at 12" x 9.5".

Weston Shore Boats At Yacht Club, Southampton - acrylic painting
This scene shows a boat yard at Weston Shore, Hampshire, near to Southampton Water. The yard is attached to a local sailing club and on this hot summers day can be seen a large number of boats and yachts under cover. Some have not moved for some time judging by the amount of grass under the wheels of the trailer.
The painting is done on stretched paper, measuring 20” x 16”, and painted in acrylic paint during July 2017.
The painting can be seen in greater detail via this link.

Netley Hospital Chapel-Weston Shore

Netley Hospital Chapel-Weston Shore

Oil painting of the Victorian tower of Netley Hospital Chapel, rising above the trees in the Royal Victoria Country Park, Hampshire. The chapel is now the only part of the large Military hospital that was situated there still in existence. The park is very close to the Southampton Water/ Weston Shore area of Hampshire and the Chapel tower a local landmark.
The painting measures 10” x 12” and was based on a poor quality mobile photograph taken during a sunny winters day. It was painted using the 'wet in wet ' technique during a one day sitting.
