Ancient alien astronaut with damaged space craft - WIP stages

Ancient alien astronaut with damaged space craft - WIP stages

WIP stages of ancient astronaut digital illustration.
3 stages of the creation of the artwork.

Painted during May 2021 this digital illustration, created using 'Auto sketchbook pro', depicts a sci-fi scene. A long dead alien astronaut is drifting with his damaged ship in to a field of space inhabited with large, long tentacled monsters.

The panel above shows three stages of the creation leading to the completed illustration. In the first panel the original sketch can be seen in a reasonably cleaned up version. Moving to the second panel the drawing has had rough colour areas and details added to indicate tone and hues. At this stage the image is a small size document, with 1200px on the longest edge, and has been done on an android tablet. The next stage is to export the file to a desktop PC, enlarge the image up so that the longest side is now 6000px. This becomes the start of the final artwork where the imagery is reworked/ painted and refined so that it can be printed up to many sizes without loss of quality. The last panel shows the finished illustration, and can be seen in greater detail on this link.

Ancient alien astronaut with damaged space craft - digital illustration

Ancient alien astronaut with damaged space craft - digital illustration

Skeleton spacewreck illustration M P Davey
Completed digital sci fi space wreck illustration.

This scifi illustration shows a scene featuring a damaged space ship floating with its long dead alien pilot nearby, attached with a tether. It is now a skeleton after the tentacled, flesh sucking creatures living in the area, have removed it.

The image was created digitally using 'Auto Sketchbook pro' during early May 2021, with final touches carried out in Photoshop, and can be seen in detail on this exterior link.

Romantic Skeletons Drawing vs Painting ART

Romantic Skeletons Drawing vs Painting ART

finished art vs sketch M P davey horror skeletons
rough drawing vs finished art 'Romantic skeletons'
This drawing vs finished art comparison shows a rough drawing compared to finished artwork. The actual art is called 'Romantic Valentine Skeletons in Graveyard' and was completed in January 2014. The first panel shows the rough drawing completed. It is lacking in any detail as can be seen. The finished art was done digitally by painting in Photoshop, but there was no detailed drawing produced on this occasion. Instead the painting was drawn and designed as I went ahead with it, deciding on the details, lighting and colours as I went along. What is consistent however is the position of all the elements based on the drawing, which remain fixed within the composition.
The final art can be seen in detail here.

Dragons and knights in armour

Dragons and knights in armour

knight_riding_dragonKnight riding dragon in flight
dragon_with_knightDragon with next meal

The top one was painted in november 2008. The lower one was march 2007. They are unconnected except they have a dragon, knight in armour and a castle. They are also both humour based. You can just make out a leg bone sticking out of the 'armour' shoe. The fire really helps to bring out the image with out being to distracting.

from the website...
Dragon with next meal
The illustration depicts a large cartoon dragon looking at its next meal, a knight in armour. The knight is dwarfed by the dragon and probably quite worried at his outcome, based on the skeletons lying around of previous brave knights.
The digital painting is quite dark (colourwise) but the red fire in the background is is placed there to add form to the picture and make the situation more intense. Painted in 2008.
