Bournemouth Pier late summer morning - acrylic painting

Bournemouth Pier late summer morning - acrylic painting

This acrylic painting shows the famous 1950s pier at Bournemouth, Dorset, found on the South coast of the UK. The painting shows a sunny morning in late summer, with the golden sandy beach that the seaside resort its known for, and some tourist enjoying the pleasant weather.

The pier, seen here from the Boscombe side, in its current form was built in the 1950s, replacing an earlier Victorian structure. Until recently the pier did feature a theatre (in the large building), but is now used for sporting activities. In addition other equipment for sporting activities have been added to the pier recently.

The 20” x 16” painting is done in acrylics on stretched watercolour paper, and was completed during march 2017. It can be seen in greater detail here.

The photograph above shows stage by stage work on an acrylic painting featuring Bournemouth beach and its famous pier during a late summers morning. The first panel illustrates a drawing, done in brown acrylic on watercolour paper, which has been stretched. The painted area is 20" 16". The second panel shows the base colours applied with limited details, some parts just having a darker than normal block of paint applied. The third panel shows the finished painting with the correct colours and details applied. The darker under-painting still shows through slightly the covering finished layers to give depth to the paintwork and colours.
The final painting can be seen here.

Bournemouth Pier summer morning from cliff top

Bournemouth Pier summer morning from cliff top

This small 10” x12” oil painting was done in March 2014. It shows the famous pier at Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, from the cliff tops during a summers morning. Already some holiday makers are settling down on the beach which will become very busy as the day goes on. In the distance can be seen the Purbecks.
The pier, in its current form, was built in the 1950s and features a theatre.

painting of Bournemouth beach in stages
Today i did a little, 10” x 12” oil painting of the pier on the beach at Bournemouth, Dorset. The first is the drawing on the board during the morning, followed at a halfway stage at lunch and the finish result at 4.30pm. The paintings are done on a red canvas, but I have made the first image BW for clarity. Please excuse the poor quality phone images!
A proper photograph of the painting will be uploaded when the paint is dry!

Bournemouth beach:Pier theatre

Bournmeouth_beach_pier_theatreBournemouth beach: pier theatre

This was painted in oils on a 16" x 20" canvas and is of the sunny, sandy beach at Bournemouth, Dorset ,UK.
The pier itself was originally built in the 1800s, but was extensively rebuilt in 1950 and the theatre (or theater) was built in 1960, and shill holds summer shows and plays.
This was painted during late January/early February 2011 when the UK was caught in an ice/snowy grip!
Other paintings of the beach can be seen here .

from the website...
This is a painting of Bournemouth Beach, in the UK, showing the famous pier, with the pier theatre at the end of it, in the background. The artwork is based on a number of photographs, combined and repositioned in photoshop. The final resulting image is then printed out, scaled up and redrawn by hand on to the canvas.

The people and their activities are always fun and interesting to paint. The water is always tricky to do but fun. There is a change of tone in the sea as it changes from one shade of blue/green to a more yellowy green, as the water becomes shallower. The feeling of bright sun seems to come across in the painting. It is painted on a canvas measuring 20" x 16" using oil paints.
