Plein air painting 105River Hamble path painting M P Davey

Viewed along the River Hamble (Hampshire) is this walkway that runs between Warsash and Swanwick. The area is prone to flooding every time the tide is in, so the walkway is of a certain height to combat this. The river is on the left side of the painting while the right side is used for drainage. In the background can be seen Hamble marina. Painted in oils on mounting board, sized at 12" x 9.5". Done on a hot and windy 15th June 2023.

Warsash landscape art Hook Hampshire M P Davey

A number of paintings were done on a visit to Warsash, Hampshire, situated by the river Hamble as it runs into Southampton water. This spot shows the nature reserve at Hook during a sunny day in August. The water shown is situated in an overflow area for the high tide. The long horizontal structure is a jetty that travels into the river for some distance.
Painted on mounting board sized at 12" x 9.5" in oils, summer 2022.

Pink Ferry On The River Hamble

Pink Ferry On The River Hamble

This painting features a scene on the River Hamble, in Hampshire on the south coast of the UK. A pink ferry (one of two) is collecting passengers from the Warsash side of the river and will go across and transport them to Hamble-Le-Rice, on the opposite side. The ferry runs almost every day and has been in operation since 1493. The painting show a number of passengers, some with bicycles getting ready to board on this sunny spring Sunday morning, the bright pink colour of the boat contrasting well with the blues and browns of the scene. Around the area can be seen numerous yachts and boats filling the marinas dotted around and serving as the background of this painting.
The painting is done in acrylics on a canvas board measuring 20" x 16", and was completed in September 2014.
The finished painting can be seen here.

Southampton River Hamble acrylic painting

Southampton River Hamble

oil painting southampton river hamble
River Hamble, Southampton
This painting is of the River Hamble, near to the Solent and Southampton, in the UK. It is based on a view photographed during the spring of 2012, and features a view of the marina, near the town of warsash, packed full of boats. There are a number of marinas down the river. The land is very flat and when the tide goes out the mud flats are revealed, showing a covering of moss and algae, with pockets of water isolated from the river. The River Hamble contains many old shipwrecks of  archaeological importance. I was drawn to this scene for my painting by this strong, green landscape, that only appears for part of the day and the way that puddles of water remain   creating their own small rivers through the landscape.
This painting is created in acrylic on a canvas measuring 20" x 16".
