Cows in a field in the Devon countryside

Cows in a field in the Devon countryside

This painting, showing a group of cows in the countryside was painted in June 2014. The location is in Devon, UK, set during a very hot summer, near to the town of Seaton. The reference photograph on which the painting is based upon, was taken from the 'Seaton Tramway'. In the adjacent field can be seen bundles of wheat wrapped in plastic for transportation.
The painting is done in oils on an acrylic base, on a canvas board measuring 20” x 16”.

Sheep in a field in the Devon countryside

This painting, showing a flock of sheep on a hillside in the countryside was painted in August 2014. The location is in Devon, UK, set during a very hot summer, near to the town of Seaton. Despite the feeling of endless countryside beyond the distant trees, the southern coastline of the UK is just behind.
The painting is done in oils on an acrylic base, on a canvas board measuring 20” x 16”.

Scary Scarecrow in field

Scary Scarecrow in field

This digital horror illustration was drawn in Photoshop during January 2013. Depicted is an old stalwart subject of the horror world, the creepy scarecrow in a field. Naturally the scene is shown in a gloomy mode with a storm forming one late afternoon over an old, abandoned farm. The Scarecrow its self is dressed in a old farmers outfit, stuffed with twigs. The head however is turned toward the viewer and is looking straight at us. There is also a mysterious green hazy light emitting from it, in particular around the face.

Dorset Countryside Golden Fields in Summer

Dorset Countryside Golden Fields in Summer

This small oil painting was painted in the Autumn of 2013. It shows a view of the Dorset (UK) countryside during a hot, summers day. Golden fields of corn can be seen stretching out in to the distance, working well against the sunny blue sky.

The painting measures 12” x 10” and the oil paint was applied on to a red acrylic base, with the basic elements of the landscape sketched out in brown acrylic paint. It was painted in an afternoon, based on a photograph taken at the time.

Cow in grass

Cow in grass

This painting is based on a small section of a larger photograph. It featured a number of cows in a grassy field, and I picked this one as it was looking at the camera, making a more interesting pose. It was planned that the long grass would make a nice, soft background for the subject. The painting was done in less than a day in oil paint, on a canvas board measuring 10” x 12”. Initially the canvas was painted in a bright red coat of acrylic paint, before drawing the composition out with brown acrylic paint, the oil painting itself on top.
Painted in early 2013.

Single chicken walking around on grass

Single chicken walking around on grass

This painting of a single chicken walking on grass, was painted at the end of 2012. It is painted in oils,on a red acrylic ground, in one six hour sitting. The size of the image is 10” x 8” and is created on a canvas board.
I took a number of photos of chickens during the previous summer, with the aim of creating a fresh painting of the bird. I added more grass in to the background to make the chicken stand out better and give the painting a more organic look, rather than the concrete surface it was walking on in reality.

fat cow running

This oil painting shows a large, hairy cow running through a field. The cow was taken from a photograph shot during the summer of 2012. It was originally seen on a road but I changed the background for a countryside view instead. The painting is roughly painted in oils on to canvas board measuring 12” x 10”, and was painted in Sept 2012.

A small, cute piglett is held by a farmer. In the farmyard can be seen two cows in a barn. Digitally painted in 2009.

Southampton cow flight
This illustration features a cow sitting atop a tall clock tower, with some home made wings attached. The farmer, its owner, is persuading it to become the first fly cow.
The clock tower is a real one attached to the Civic Centre building in Southampton, UK. An oil painting of mine of the tower itself can be seen here. For this illustration I took a number of pictures from ground level of the tower, and redrew it for the angle required here.

The image is painted in photoshop to a size of 8" x 10". Painted in 2010.
