Steam Punk Girl with space ship - WIP stages

Steam Punk Girl with space ship - WIP stages

scifi ship with pilot art work in progress Martin Davey

A female steampunk pilot has found that her small space shuttle has broken down on this possibly hostile planet...
This illustration was done during the winter of 2018, and was created in 'Auto Sketchbook pro'. It was roughed out on an android tablet (galaxy) using an 'S pen', and that is the stage shown in the first panel with the line drawing, followed by the second panel which indicated the rough colouring of the scene. The third panel shows the finished artwork which has by this stage been exported to a W10 computer, running the same software, but using the benefit of the more powerful computer to enlarge and refine the painting.
The finished sci sf illustration can be viewed here.

Boy With Airplane On Hilltop - digital illustration

Martin Davey boy pilot with wings illustration
illustration art of  'Boy With Airplane On Hilltop'
Created during July 2018, this illustration features a boy standing on a hill top imagining himself as a pilot flying through the air and zooming upwards at fantastic speeds. He has a helmet and wings made out of cardboard. Behind him a large, powerful (but impossible) airplane suddenly roars past him, pulling up grass and flowers from the hill.
This illustration was painted digitally in 'Auto sketchbook pro' with final details added in photoshop. It can be seen as a larger, more detailed image on this link.

Steampunk Girl With Spaceship - digital painting

Steampunk Girl With Spaceship - digital painting

spaceship on planet female pilot digital illustration
Steampunk Girl With Spaceship - digital painting
This digital illustration was done over a period of February/ March 2018. It features a 'steam punk' inspired scene of a small, shuttle space craft that has made a forced landing on an alien planet. Its female pilot is out looking for help and deciding on her location while the sun sets. In the shadows some creatures are lurking in the shadows.

'Auto Sketchbook Pro' was used to create the artwork, initially running on an android tablet to rough out the basic idea and colours envisaged. As it is done on 'layers', the work is then exported to a Windows 10 computer running the same software but with more power, so that one of the first things to do is to scale up the document for better quality and continue painting. At a certain stage the artwork is then finished off in Photoshop, where final details and colour grading is carried out.

A larger view of the illustration can be seen on this link.

Girl in a balloon greeting a happy sun

Girl in a balloon greeting a happy sun

This illustration, of a girl in a balloon greeting a happy sun, was created in early 2013. The artwork shows a stylised illustration of a happy girl with a woolly hat piloting a pink balloon from the basket mounted underneath. She is waving at a happy, smiling sun that is emitting rays of light.
The blue sky helps to make the pinks and yellows bounce out of the painting. It was created in a vector based drawing programme, and output at A3 size.
